Invitation to the DATE18 Friday Workshop

(PresseBox) - Microchips in the form of SoCs are already the cornerstone of our modern highly automated world. The heart of building microchips are reliable, highly efficient programs which allow to describe, validate and execute the individual steps of the design ? from specifying the application to manufacturing, integrating and maintaining the product. Providing these tools is the Challenge of the EDA (Electronic Design Automation).

Automating the integration of an ever-growing number of complex and mostly physically entangled functionalities from multiple application domains, traditional EDA research is facing many disruptive changes and the dependency between traditional EDA, EDA research and other system design and validation disciplines is expected to become even more important. Fully automated driving is a very good example for such a multidisciplinary subject where EDA support is required to obtain a solution that is safe, secure and economically feasible. Since the overall product will only be successful if large teams of experts with different background contribute to a joint solution, share their knowledge and collaborate. For this reason it becomes more and more important to foster multidisciplinary excellence in EDA research. With the CSC-Workshop we are asking for your opinion and active participation to test and challenge our hypothesis that the EDA research community requires new approaches to contribute, share and collaborate.

The CSC-Workshop at DATE on March 23, 2018 (Dresden, Germany) invites you to a threefold discussion to enable multidisciplinary excellence in EDA research. Based on invited talks we introduce you to the three main topics: Contribute, Share and Collaborate in EDA research. For each topic, experts will show problems and pitch new solutions for a joint discussion and for an all-together in-depth dialogue within a World Caf

The edacentrum is an independent institution dedicated to the promotion of research and development in the area of EDA, both in the classical sense of ?Electronic Design Automation? and in the sense of "Electronics, Design and Applications" along the whole value chain. Founded by the German microelectronics industry, it was funded during its early years by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The primary role of edacentrum is to initiate, evaluate and supervise industry-driven R&D projects, and to offer a wide range of services to support all matters concerning EDA development and in particular project management for R&D projects. Moreover, by encouraging EDA cluster research projects and by providing a comprehensive network and communication platforms for the EDA community, edacentrum brings together and reinforces the EDA expertise of universities and research institutes.

The edacentrum seeks to increase awareness among upper management, the public and the political arena, of the critical importance of design capability and automation as a central solution for the implementation of microelectronics innovations in the applications and products of the future.
