Electric Cell Substrate Impedance Sensing

(PresseBox) - We are happy to announce our new partnership with the US-based company Applied BioPhysics. As new exclusive distributor for the DACH-region, Belgium and the Netherlands, we will be supporting existing customers and take care of new enquiries.

Applied BioPhysics, in the market for over 3 decades, is known for Electric Cell-substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS?) for non-invasive and label-free monitoring of cells. They offer the system Z-Theta which measures impedance and capacities via gold electrodes in cell cultures. These measurements are useful for a wide range of possible applications such as barrier function, cell migration, cell proliferation, cytotoxicity, wound healing, drug research and many more.

In addition, a wide range of accessories such as 8-, 96- or 24-well (transfilter) arrays are available. The arrays are equipped with 1, 10 or inter-digitated finger electrodes and come with plates made from PS. 8-well transfilter arrays to measure TEER (Transepithelial electrical resistance) or flow channel arrays mimicking shear stress in vivo are also available. All arrays can be put under an inverted microscope for observation of cells and come with a barcode.

Arrays with small electrodes can better observe individual behaviour of cell proliferation or migration whereas arrays with many electrodes provide the advantage of smoothing out small differences and lead to a more average and statistically meaningful result.

A specific tool of ECIS? for wound healing is integrated in the user-friendly software of the device. High currencies for a defined period of time are applied to kill the cells over the electrode. If these voltages are used for a very short period even electroporation methods are possible.

We will present the device for the first time at the LabSupply in Leverkusen on 8th October, 2024 at Forum Leverkusen (Büchelter Hof 9, 51373 Leverkusen ?? entrance free).

Please contact us or visit the LabSupply to learn more about the innovative ECIS method from Applied Biophysics.
