Zermatt: mountain experience of superlatives
The vacation village of Zermatt is a beautiful, car-free place in the canton of Valais in the Swiss mountains. It lies at 1,608 meters above sea level and has around 6,000 inhabitants. The 4,478-meter-high Matterhorn towers high above the idyllic tourist village and exudes a majestic dignity. Zermatt is world-famous because of the Matterhorn.

In summer, over 400 kilometers of hiking trails lead through and out of the Mattertal. There are even mule tracks dating back to the 13th century, some of which are now paved. The largest and highest summer ski area in Europe is the ??Matterhorn glacier paradise?". Numerous international ski nations train here in the summer months when there is no snow elsewhere. Climbing, high mountain tours and biking are other popular activities in summer and fall.
Zermatt in Winter:
In winter, you can ski on 360 kilometers of slopes. There are 54 lifts that take tourists up to all altitudes. The snow-sure ski area is divided into three varied ski regions: Sunnegga-Rothorn, Gornergrat-Stockhorn and Schwarzsee / Matterhorn glacier paradise.
Snowboarders and freestylers, who are Olympic contenders, also practice in the Zermatt Snowpark. The Italian ski areas of Breuil-Vervinia and Valtournenche can be reached via the Matterhorn glacier paradise / Theodul Pass. With experienced mountain guides, you can also go paragliding and heliskiing outside the groomed pistes.
