Argentina and China (Nucleoeléctrica Argentina and the China National Nuclear Corporation) have just signed an agreement concerning a nuclear project. The Atucha 3 nuclear power plant is to be built jointly. It will be built near Lima and about 100 kilometers northwest of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires. It will use China s Hualong-One technology, a reactor that will use enriched uranium as fuel and light water as coolant. The initial life is expected to be 60 years, with a rated gross power output of 1,200 MW.
According to the two parties, the agreement was concluded in an online event, this is "the beginning of a new cycle of cooperation and mutual understanding, which both companies foresee promising prosperity for both nations, enabling the strengthening of relations for the peaceful development of nuclear energy production, nuclear science and technology, and industrial development." The vice president of Argentina s National Atomic Energy Commission, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, called the agreement a "historic event."
