German Special Distributor Memphis Electronic opens new offices in the UK and the US
Bad Homburg, October 22, 2007 – Memphis Electronic AG, international distributor of memory ICs and producer of industrial memory modules, is expanding its operations. After opening a branch office in Houston, USA, in September, Memphis has now opened an office in London, UK.
(firmenpresse) - These days, memory chips are mass-produced items that are needed in virtually every electronic product. However, procuring the chips is a very complex business for most companies, as the market is subject to massive price fluctuations. What’s more, the variety of products makes it difficult to maintain an overview. This is where Memphis comes in. The special distributor provides companies with extensive advice in terms of functionality, availability, and price trends for memory ICs and also stocks a large selection of chips in its logistics centers.
Marco Mezger, Head of Sales and Marketing at Memphis and now also President of Memphis Electronic Inc., sees a lot of potential in the US and UK markets for this combination of technical expertise and market knowledge. "By opening the offices in Houston and London we are meeting the requirements of our customers in these countries," said Mezger. "Our American and British customers appreciate the unique range of services that Memphis offers them. Our new offices bring us even closer to the markets, which means that we can offer our customers even better advice. We don't just see ourselves as a dealer, but more as a competence centre for memory technologies, which helps companies find the optimum memory solution for their range of products," explained Marco Mezger Memphis’ self-perception.
Initially the office in Houston will have four members of staff, while in London three memory experts will take care of the customers needs. Memphis expects to double the number of consultants in both offices within a year. In Houston Marco Mezger will be supported by Nick Urbano, the new Director of Sales Americas. Wolf Dietrich will run the London office as Director of UK Operations.
Memphis Electronic has products from more than 20 memory IC manufacturers in its portfolio – including industry leaders like Elpida, Micron, Samsung, Qimonda as well as smaller, more specialized producers, such as EON, Lyontek and Amic. Through its focus on the memory market, Memphis can advise its customers effectively and objectively in their choice of components. Memphis is not only a distributer, but also develops and manufactures memory modules of its own. The company has its own warehouse and is thus less affected by the typical price fluctuations and delivery bottlenecks on the market. "With this combination we are almost unique in the market," said Mezger. In 2006 the company generated sales of more than 20 million euros and now has offices in Bad Homburg (Germany), London (UK), Hong Kong (China), and Houston (USA).
