Secure WLAN Network Printing Solution for POS Market Protects Sensitive Customer and Business Information
Bielefeld, September 3, 2007. –SEH Technology adds a new print server to its solution portfolio for the point of sale (POS) market. The German-based specialist for network solutions developed the model PS113 especially for the Citizen Systems line thermal printer series CT-S300, CT-S2000, CT-S4000, the line thermal kiosk units PPU-700, and the impact dot matrix printer series Citizen CD-S500. The interface card connects these devices to wireless LANs for the first time. This solution opens new fields of application and more flexibility for these highly specialized devices, targeting the enterprise market, especially retail trade, logistics, warehouse management, and the restaurant and catering industry. PS113 connects the Citizen POS printers to networks based on IPv4 as well as IPv6. The model is immediately available at a suggested retail price of about 245 Euro excluding taxes.
(firmenpresse) - In the strongly growing POS market, conventional, wired data transfer systems are making room for secure Wireless Local Area Networks. This allows a more flexible operation of many applications at the points of sale. Security measures are of the utmost importance because in Wireless LANs, data transmission is entirely via radio waves (ISM band 2.4 GHz). Sensitive data processed by these applications, for example customer credit card information, needs to be protected from unauthorized access.
Secure Data Transmission for POS Printers in WLANs
The new PS113 print server features the latest encryption standards and authentication methods based on IEEE 802.1x, which ensure the security of network printing in wireless networks installed at points of sale, restaurants, or warehouses. For encrypted WLAN (802.1 b/g) data transmission, users can choose between the secure standards WPA and WPA2 and the older standard WEP. In addition they have the option to use print data encryption via TLS/SSL on top of these. Authentication methods, including Cisco LEAP, EAP-MD5, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS, PEAP, and EAP-FAST are integrated into PS113 and provide for the verification of identity for all clients accessing the network printers.
Powerful Network Connection for Citizen POS Printers
On account of SEH's close cooperation with Citizen Systems, a leading vendor worldwide of special printers for the POS market, the WLAN interface card PS113 is perfectly adapted to the printer lines CT-S300, CT-S2000, CT-S4000, PPU-700, and CD-S500, connecting these devices to wireless networks for the first time. These highly specialized printers are employed in point of sale and kiosk systems, printing receipts, coupons, tickets, journals, daily reports, and barcodes. Last year SEH introduced the Ethernet print server PS112 which allowed sharing these printers in a network for the first time. Just as PS112, the WLAN twin model PS113 is a multiple protocol print server, connecting output devices to IPv4 and IPv6 based networks. Both print servers support all common operating systems and come with a ThinPrint .print Client v7.x as well as comprehensive service and a three to five years warranty.
