Wunderlich's exclusive EDITION 35 valve cover-&cylinder protectors for the BMW R 1250 Shiftcam-Boxer models
(PresseBox) - On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the company, Wunderlich presented various campaigns and components last year. The highlight of the EDITION 35 projects were undoubtedly the two sensational interpretations of the R 1250 GS, which Wunderlich simply called EDITION 35 #1 and #2. They are based on the current BMW R 1250 GS. The BMW specialists have designed both machines in the exclusive EDITION 35 color scheme. The character of the two GS could not be more different: The Ringeners have characterized #1 as a ?Super-Enduro? and the #2 as a striking superbike! In doing so, they have not only explored the maximum range of conversion possibilities with in-house components that are possible when professionally converting a GS, but have also marked out the exciting antipodes of the GS world.
Both concept bikes are equipped with the successful valve cover- & cylinder protectors he exclusive design with integrated stainless steel inlay in EDITION 35 blue.
The cylinders of a boxer BMW are exposed. Stone chips, an off-road overturn, an unfortunate slip or fall, or when brushing a plastered wall while maneuvering in close quarters, there is an easy risk of scratching the valve covers. On the 1250cc Shiftcam engines, there is also the fact that the design of the Shiftcam mechanism is decidedly complex. As the valve covers are exclusively force-fitted, there is a risk that the valve cover will move relative to the cylinder head in the case of any force being exerted, possibly damaging the complex valve train. Therefore, the additional protection of the valve cover is of particular importance. Wunderlich has developed a set of well thought-out protectors for this purpose. These are characterized by the fact that they fit the valve cover contour precisely with a narrow gap dimension. This requires the precision in manufacturing and processing that you can expect from Wunderlich.
The protector is made of an impact-resistant, hard-wearing plastic. On the inner side facing the valve cover, segments with a high-temperature-resistant elastic material have been constructively integrated. These segments are impact-absorbing in terms of their Shore hardness*. Their equally supporting and protective effect ensures that when external forces occur, they are absorbed and distributed evenly over the segments and force peaks are thus reliably reduced, if not avoided altogether. The high-quality design and function of the protectors are completed by an embedded stainless steel insert. In the exclusive EDITION 35, the inlay is blue. In addition to its function as a design element, it also serves as a protective element to prevent the valve cover from grinding through and the inevitable loss of oil. In this way, the protectors help prevent secondary damage. In many cases, they allow the vehicle to be ridden on unhindered after a mishap. Installation is simple with the included installation kit.
