New-Domains and News-Domains: What a difference a letter makes...
(PresseBox) - Even easier than you can confuse right and left, you can confuse the New-Domains and the News-Domains. Only one letter makes the difference. The meaning is very different.
News domains stand for news, that is, for current information. The new domains for everything that is new. Google tells:
".new is a domain extension exclusively for performing new actions online: any act that leads to creation can have a quick and memorable .new shortcut associated with it"
Google, the registrar of the new domains, specifies exactly what the new domains should be used for. Read more here!
A study by Searchmetrics has shown the connection between better ranking and the new top level domains for the Berlin-Domains. Websites with Berlin domains often rank better in Google than regional websites with de-domains and com-domains. The result of the Searchmetrics study can be summarized as follows:
".Berlin domains rank better in 42% of search queries locally."
The study by Total Websites in Houston shows that the results of Searchmetrics can be generalized to all new top level domains, including new domains and news domains: It found that Google uses the domain endings of new top level domains as a key element for the valuation of the domain. Bottom line:
"It is clear that the new top level domains will improve search engine rankings."
