Production of wood processing machines significantly lower since 2008, sales slightly higher than in machinery industry - Quest industry report
The production of wood processing machines has been declining continuously since 2012, while its sales has been rising and falling alternately.
(firmenpresse) - The Quest industry report compares production and sales in the wood processing machinery sector with those in the German machinery industry. The data are provided by the Federal Statistical Office, indexed by Quest Research. The industry report indexes both production and sales at 100 for the pre-crisis year 2008. So development and comparison with machinery industry up to 2017 becomes visible at a glance.
The production of wood processing machinery in 2017 is 50% below its pre-crisis level of 2008. Since the production of machinery industry also remains below its pre-crisis level, the production of wood processing machinery is 47% below that of machinery industry. The slump in production of splitting machines and chipper (-71%) is mainly responsible for this. But also the production of the other product segments of the sector such as planing, grinding and bending machines as well as presses are falling at double-digit rates.
In 2017, sales of wood processing machines could exceed the pre-crisis level for the first time being along with the level of the machinery industry with a plus of 10% compared to 9%. So in comparison with the machinery industry, sales of wood processing machines are growing more strongly by 1%.
