Machine exports to China again ahead of the USA - for the first time since 2014
In the second quarter of 2018, machine exports exceeded those to the USA / The new Quest Report provides an up-to-date overview of the global machinery export markets
(PresseBox) - Machine exports to China saved the German mechanical engineering industry from a sudden crash in the global economic crisis of 2008/2009. The export ratio to China climbed from 6.6% to 9% in the crisis, then 10.7% and reached its previous peak of 11.5% in 2011. At the same time, machinery exports to the USA, the number one export country outside the EU, fell from 7.8% to 7.0% and then rose again slightly to 8.1% by 2011.
Since 2014, export markets have shifted back to the pre-crisis level, a backward shift that was completed in 2017.
Machinery exports to the USA exceeded those to China again in 2015. The ratio of machinery exports to China fell continuously and reached its lowest level to date in 2016 at 8.6%, while that to the USA rose and has remained above 10% since 2015.
