The Bisse Races
There is no better way to get a taste of the local culture than by going to see the Bisse races that take place in July. Bisse are long narrow boats that in the past were used by the fisherman local to Lake Garda. While these boats are no longer used for fishing, they are now used for racing during the Bandiera del Lago races, which take place every year. The aim is to win the Bandiera del Lago (the flag of the lake), and many towns put forward their own four man rowing team to take part.
The Medieval Festival
Every year, the town of Malcesine steps back in time, and hosts The Medieval Festival, an event that cannot be missed if you are in the area. Hosted in and around the castle, there are sights and activities for everyone. You can take a stroll around the medieval style market or learn more about the history of the castle through a tour. There is also an array of entertainment, from falconry to fire eating, and the event ends with an amazing firework display. This year The Medieval Festival is taking place from the 25th to the 26th of July.
