Get pumped for your vacation in a luxury catered ski chalet with a few stories of inspirational achievements in the history of modern skiing.

(firmenpresse) - There is always that buzz of excitement that you get once you have booked a ski holiday that you just do not get with a typical vacation. This is because you know that it will not be too long until you are shredding powder, soaking up the amazing après atmosphere and indulging in luxury in your catered ski chalet or in a state-of-the-art spa.

For those setting off on a winter sports trip soon, here are a few inspirational achievements in the history of modern skiing to whet your appetite and get you pumped for your upcoming holiday.

World’s Youngest Ski Champion

At just 21 years old, Mikaela Shiffrin from Colorado, USA became the youngest ever World Cup ski champion – and if that’s not enough, she is also a 3-time winner of the World Cup. Mikaela’s success has been attributed to her love for skiing, as well as a fair amount of hard work and family support from a young age. She first began skiing when she was just 6, when she would ski down her Colorado driveway. Inspirational stuff!

World’s Oldest Male Ski Champion

Whilst Mikaela impresses with winning at such a young age, Erik Guay has defied his age by becoming the world’s oldest champion at 35 (which, in pro sportsmen terms, is quite something). Hailing from Canada, the veteran skier won the world super-g title at St. Moritz earlier this year. 30-something skiers can take great inspiration from Guay, but perhaps not attempt the slopes with quite the same vigour!

World’s Oldest Female Ski Champion

A legend in the alpine world, Lindsey Vonn has smashed numerous records and is America’s most successful ski racer of all time. Earlier this year she became the oldest woman to earn a medal at the worlds at the age of 32 - she now has a staggering 2 gold medals, 3 silvers and 2 bronze medals in the world championships, to go along with a shiny gold from the 2010 Olympics.

World’s Most Gutsy Ski Champion

Stories do not come more inspirational than Marie Bochet, who is a very impressive multiple world champion in para-alpine skiing at just 23 years old. The French national has agenesis of the left arm, but this has not held her back - she has been skiing since the age of 5 and does not intend to stop. Her impressive resume includes 13 medals on the world stage and 4 medals at the Paralympic Winter Games. In the 2015-16 season, Bochet obliterated the competition to go unbeaten and reach a whopping 50 World Cup career wins.

World’s Most Unlikely Ski Champion

If you have not seen the brilliant comedy Eddie the Eagle or you are unfamiliar with the unlikely ski champion, then do me a favour and go and watch it now! Michael Edwards captured the world’s imagination when he became the first competitor since 1929 to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. He finished 73rd out of 73rd in spectacular fashion, but endeared himself to people with his spirit and wanting to compete regardless of his chances of winning.

These inspirational stories from modern skiing should have you pumped up for your holiday, so remember these names when you are hitting the slopes or chilling out in your catered ski chalet.
