(firmenpresse) - Hamburg. According to a prognosis which was recently made by logistics experts, the logistics industry is going to grow by two to three percent in the coming year. They came up with this prognosis while taking all logistics costs into account. For the packaging company akf siemers, these is a promising development. “We were happy about a stable order situation this year,” says Marc Briese, Managing Director of the akf siemers Group. “With our clients from the machinery and plant engineering sector, we have been able to realize very exciting projects and even signed annual contracts.”
However, the packaging company is planning to have a stable order situation for all subdivisions that is constantly on a high level in 2015. One thing is always on their mind: the further internationalization of the packaging company. One of the successful international projects this year was the shipment of a cement plant to Thailand. Approximately 40,000 freight tons (FRT) and 1,000 containers were shipped from Europe to Laem Chabang in Thailand. “But while we were well-accustomed to the temperatures during this project, our colleagues had to deal with minus degrees during another one,” remembers Briese. On the Disco Island off the coast of Greenland, a bottling plant for mineral water was disassembled, packed, and transported back to Germany by the packaging company. 17 containers contained plant parts. Two other containers held tools, a forklift, and surplus material. The purpose-specific boxes of the packaging company weighed between 4.1 and 12.6 tons respectively. The total net weight was 78 tons, while the gross weight was 98 tons (without containers).
Besides realizing major projects, the packaging company was able to strengthen their relations with partners and clients from the machinery and plant engineering sector. “We have become stronger with our partner Shanghai Sunnew in China”, explains Briese. Their perfect partnership started in 2007. And it has been proven how well they actually work together: Beumer, one of Germany’s largest machinery and plant engineers, signed a new annual contract after best experiences with both akf siemers and Shanghai Sunnew.
The akf siemers Group sees a lot of potential in the relations between Asia and Hamburg in particular – and the estimation of the packaging and logistics company is correct. There was major growth at Hamburg’s harbor this year: According to Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V., the container handling reached a new record with 7.4 million standard containers this year. Hamburg profits particularly from the two-dimensional growth of container traffic in Asia. Especially China – with its growth of 12.8 percent – is responsible for the enormous success of the maritime, international trade of Germany’s largest universal harbor.
“2014 has been a record year for Hamburg’s harbor on different levels,” Briese points out. “And our clients from the machinery and plant engineering sector profit from our location directly at Hamburg’s harbor. This is not going to change in 2015, but we want to optimize certain aspects to guarantee a good workflow.” In Hamburg, a total turnover of 144 million tons is possible. Container handling could come up to 9.7 million tons.
