World Maker Faire New York 2013 Announces 650+ Makers, Presenters, and Performers to Be Showcased at September 21 & 22 Event

(firmenpresse) - QUEENS, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 08/27/13 -- World Maker Faire New York, the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth, announces that over 650 makers, presenters, and performers will be exhibiting their DIY ingenuity, creativity, and inventions at the event on September 21 and 22 at the New York Hall of Sciences in Queens. The exhibits will be prime examples of how the maker movement is rocketing to the forefront of mainstream America. From 3D printing, DIY drones, and electric vehicle projects to sustainability, fixing, and up-cycling to fine arts, crafting, and food making, and anything in between, Faire goers will marvel at what makers are achieving in each field. Some maker highlights for World Maker Faire New York 2013 event are:

Leading the charge on science education for social change, the BioBus is a high-tech science lab on wheels. Boasting an array of advanced scientific equipment and a professional scientist aboard, the BioBus reaches over 20,000 students a year, visiting public schools across NYC and the country.

: Make your own robot -- it's easy! Using a remote controlled car base, a kitchen size trash bin, a lettuce container, dryer tube, and a couple of LED lights for eyes you, too, can have a robot companion.

Tinkerer and young maker (he's 12 years old!), Daniel Anand, created a screw-based, motorized wheelchair transfer device using a reclaimed ATV motor and a battery pack that allows users to get in and out of wheelchairs by themselves.

: Budding engineer, young maker, and 14 year old brother of Daniel Anand, Joseph Anand has developed KARTS for Vets, a Microsoft Kinect and Arduino-based rehabilitation system to help injured veterans with their physical therapy (PT) requirements.

Dreamers, hackers, and engineers from Gotham Laboratories in NYC designed a quad coptor-based robot that will autonomously map the surface of a mock asteroid. The Furry Electric Zoo is a project that helps foster a new culture of STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) through teaching people of all age and backgrounds how to make accessible, non-intimidating, and expressive technology projects. The Furry Electric Zoo kits use soft circuit projects to teach users basic electronic concepts such as circuit and switch as well as basic sewing skills while encouraging users to create fantastical creatures.

Austin-based artist, George Sabra, has been using reclaimed and discarded materials for 27 years to address environmental issues through temporary art installations. Coming to the Faire will be George's 14' high plastic storm funnel sculpture made from reclaimed plastic bottles, cups, jars, and caps which represent the massive "storm" of plastic waste humans generate as well as a 21' long plastic caps sculpture made from 25,000 of discarded and reclaimed plastic caps and lids.

Participating as a Maker Faire Goldsmith sponsor for the second time, Zazzle will be at World Maker Faire New York 2013 hosting "Make It Yours," an event where everyone can get creative -- adults, children, and all ages in between. There will be postcards with robot designs that attendees can color in and decorate. Also available will be photo buttons that anyone can create by taking a picture of themselves. With just a bit of imagination and all sorts of creative supplies, attendees can make these products uniquely their own. Zazzle will have merchandise on display to show all of their amazing products from skateboards to iPad cases, including products made by Brooklyn, New York, maker Case-Able.
