Medical Guardian Recognizes National Senior Citizens Day With Flash Dance in Rittenhouse Park
(firmenpresse) - PHILADELPHIA, PA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/20/13 -- It was a bright and sunny day on Friday, August 19, 1988 as President Ronald Reagan addressed the crowd, saying, "For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older."
And that's how National Senior Citizens Day was born. This year, National Senior Citizens Day falls on Wednesday, August 21st.
In an effort to honor the spirit of the day, Medical Guardian has produced a flash dance video in Rittenhouse Park, Philadelphia, featuring swing-dancing senior citizens. Four couples danced for the lunchtime crowd on Thursday, August 15th, in a joint effort between Medical Guardian and the Society Hill Dance Academy. The most experienced dancer, Frank Pepe, 82 years old, has been dancing for over 20 years and is a regular in dance competitions nationwide. The greenest dancer, Nan Garvey, 67 years old, has only been dancing for 3 months but managed to gracefully keep time with the rest of the group.
Passersby stopped to watch, and take photos with their smart phones, as the seniors kept in time to a modern-day swing song composed by local musician Cody Aldrich. The video was shot and edited by local Philadelphia production company, Society Hill Films.
