The Warwick Estate is located on the foothills of the Simonsberg in the middle of the famous wine region Stellenbosch. In 1964, it was newly created on historic grounds by Stan and Norma Ratcliffe and mainly Norma led the winery to the top of the South African wine elite with passion and skills. Together with their son Mike, they created a new version of Cape wines: Cape Blends – cuvees that owe their basis to the originally South African grape variety Pinotage. One prime example for an excellent Cape Blend is the ‘Three Cape Ladies’. Full-bodied with a harmonious structure, it gives off aromas of ripe plums and chocolate.
Visitors of the winery can not only discover the vineyards during the ‘Big 5 Vineyard Safaris’ but also try the Warwick wines. If you prefer it a bit quieter, you can book one of the wonderful picnic spots and get a basket filled with delicacies to enjoy with friends or family.
The wines from Warwick regularly rank amongst the top ones at the most important wine awards. For example, the ‘Trilogy’ has been awarded even several times with 90 Parker Points, 4.5 Platter Stars, Silver at IWSC and an inclusion to the Top 100 SA wines. The high wine art of the family Ratcliffe also shows in the white wines ‘Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc’ or the ‘First Lady Unoaked Chardonnay’. These two wines have been awarded 4 respectively 4.5 Platter Stars, the Best Value Award and Silver at the Decanter World Wine Award 2013.
