Logistics excellence by Remmers Baustofftechnik
Munich/Brussels, 07.06.2013 – On 5 June 2013, Remmers Baustofftechnik GmbH from Löningen, Germany received the ‘European Award for Logistics Excellence’ from the European Logistics Association (ELA) for its ‘<24 h Logistics Concept’. ROI Management Consulting AG, which specialises in the design and management of supply chains, supported Remmers with the development of its integrated logistics concept.
(firmenpresse) - The ELA announced the winner of the ‘European Award for Logistics Excellence 2013’ in Brussels on the evening of 5 June 2013. The ELA award is a prestigious prize that is conferred annually in Brussels. The six companies with the highest-placed entries for the ELA award 2013 in the European ‘Logistics Champions League’ were invited.
In the last round, Remmers came highest out of the six finalists with its pioneering logistics concept. Remmers is a medium-sized company in the construction materials industry with a workforce numbering more than 1,400 in over 40 countries. It directly supplies around 50,000 customers – from small traders to builders merchants. In view of its strong growth and increasing customer requirements, the company management decided in 2009 to expand the logistics side of the business and make it one of the company’s core competencies. All processes, from procurement of raw materials, production logistics and warehousing to distribution logistics, were optimised from end to end. The result is a logistics concept unique in the industry, which promises delivery of individually ordered and manufactured products within 24 hours and has proven its reliability since 2012.
End-to-end optimisation of all areas of the supply chain
In the new, integrated logistics concept, all processes are optimised and geared to future increases in quantities. The idea was based on a plant structure concept created by management consultants ROI according to lean principles. Remmers now boasts state-of-the-art solutions in all areas: the improved warehouse structure comprises a new European central warehouse and three strategically distributed regional warehouses. In cooperation with ROI, the space requirements were worked out and the stock levels aligned to the regional market requirements. Continuous stock-flow adjustment prevents supply bottlenecks and the accumulation of old stock. Klaus Boog, Managing Director of Remmers Baustofftechnik, describes the cooperation between the two companies as follows: “ROI has become a valuable partner for us, offering us ongoing, expert and highly customer-oriented support with tricky logistics issues.”
The outstanding logistics concept is rounded off by a central goods management system – which ensures stock transparency and allows Europe-wide batch tracking – just-in-time special colour production, a modular packaging system and close cooperation with selected transport providers.
Remmers was chosen as the ‘Logistics Champions League Winner 2013’ by the jury consisting of 20 logistics experts from 12 countries.
