Top Fuel Efficiency Tips for Drivers This Spring
Asda Money reveals that UK motorists could save between GBP300 and GBP350 on average each year(1) by driving more efficiently.

In light of these figures, Asda Money offers some top fuel efficiency tips for drivers this spring.
Reduce your speed
Driving at lower speeds can help motorists to reduce their fuel consumption. As an example if motorists travelled at 50mph rather than 62mph, they would use around 10% less fuel, while a higher fuel consumption saving of 20% can be made if they reduce their speed from 68mph to 50mph(3).
Offload excess baggage
Although roof racks can provide the perfect storage solution, especially if you are heading off on holiday and need extra space for your luggage, the extra weight can act to increase fuel consumption. A loaded roof rack on a motorway can increase fuel consumption by as much as 5% on a motorway journey. Even if your roof rack is empty, it can push up fuel consumption by around 1%, so it may be advisable to remove your roof rack when it isn't needed.
Ensure your engine is properly maintained
Drivers could see fuel consumption increase by as much as 50% if their engines are poorly tuned, highlighting the need for regular maintenance checks. A properly maintained engine will also help to avoid unnecessary wear and tear.
Reduce your reliance on air conditioning
In the rare event that the UK is graced with sunny weather in early spring, drivers may be tempted to crank up their air conditioning in an effort to stay cool. However, using air conditioning at motorway speeds can result in fuel consumption increasing by between 3% and 4%.
Using a car's flow-through ventilation could help to reduce your reliance on air conditioning.
