Katey Graffman of Aurora, Colo. was notified in a surprise phone call on December 6 from Shane Co.'s founder, Tom Shane, that the company would replace her ring.
Shane presented the new ring to Graffman and her fiancé, Jason Simons, on December 7 at Shane Co.'s store in Greenwood Village, Colo. The engagement ring was inside Graffman's purse when the purse was snatched from the carriage she was driving in Denver's Lodo district on December 1.
"Our policy is that we won't profit from a customer's loss," Shane said. "In cases of theft, we usually offer to replace the item at a significant discount. However, I was touched by Katey's story, and given the unique situation, and in the spirit of the holiday season, we wanted to make things right for Katey and Jason."
About getting her new ring, Graffman said: "It's wonderful. I never thought I'd have that ring back on my finger again. I couldn't sleep. My finger felt naked."
Simons expressed gratitude at having the ring replaced. "It's really awesome that a company is that generous and willing to help out someone who, through no fault of their own, had their stuff stolen," Simons said.
