Twenty years of feeding Calgarians, one bus at a time.

(firmenpresse) - CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/29/12 -- Twenty years of feeding Calgarians, one bus at a time. That's , a unique partnership between Calgary Transit, Calgary Co-op, XL103, and the to bring food to Calgarians in crisis. Every November, for one day only, Calgary Transit buses park outside the front entrances of Calgary Co-op stores across this city; but instead of accepting bus fare, they accept donations of food and money.

Calgary Co-op Communications Manager Cindy Drummond says, "As a food store, this event makes a lot of sense for us. We are helping Calgarians get their basic needs met and that includes food. It's really seamless for us. We're grateful as an organization to be a part of this."

The has entered its 30th year of serving the people of this city - this is not something we are celebrating. But 20 years of Calgarians helping us for the holidays? That's cause for celebration!

On November 3, 2012, Calgarians are encouraged to drop off a food or cash donation at their local Calgary Co-op between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. XL103 on air personalities will be at several stores throughout the day - listen to XL103 that morning and find out who will be where!

For those Calgarians who will be out of town on November 3rd, problem solved! From November 3rd to 9th, Calgarians can make a cash donation or drop off non-perishable food at any Calgary Co-op food centre.

"Thanks to the generosity of thousands of Calgarians, there have been no speed bumps for this bus," says Calgary Transit's Ron Collins. "In the last 13 years alone has collected more than $1 million in cash and food donations for the Food Bank!"

"The has learned that when we help people with food once or twice we often don't see them again," says James McAra, Food Bank CEO. "Crisis averted. Panic eliminated. Balance restored. The Food Bank understands the power of food, and so do our partners."

Media Opportunity

Mayor Naheed Nenshi will join representatives from Calgary Transit, Calgary Co-op, XL103 and the Calgary Food Bank at the Calgary Co-Op in Macleod Trail Centre (8818 Macleod Trail South) to speak with media and thank our donors as they help us stuff the bus! Call us for Mayor Nenshi's confirmed time of arrival.
