Winter 2012/13: Many changes in Obertauern
Austria"s winter hot spot even more family-friendly
(firmenpresse) - Not so long ago, Obertauern was regarded first and foremost as a mecca for seekers of great skiing - and equally great partying. The après-ski and nightlife at the highest lying ski resort in Austria"s Salzburger Land is legendary, as is the nearly unbeatable guarantee of snow. But for several years now, Obertauern has also been attracting ever more families. And thanks to the changes and upgrades for the winter 2012/13 season, Obertauern is now finally joining the ranks of the best-equipped winter sport regions for families in the Alps.
The main attraction of family-friendly Obertauern is the new "Bibo Bear" family ski park, which was built right in the centre of the village at the Edelweiss lift and which is equipped according to the newest findings on developing the necessary motor skills and mindset of both junior and adult ski novices. The simplest stretch, where beginners learn the basics, leads to the "Animals" Village"; next, turns and carving are practised in the "Poles Jungle". Finally, skill and stamina in more difficult conditions are taught on the "Rumble Piste".
Obertauern is also making final improvements to the family-friendliness of lifts and cable cars in time for the start of the winter season 2012/13. Thus the Grünwaldkopfbahn lift right at the entrance to the village has been turned into a combined row-of-eight open-chair/10-person enclosed-gondola lift. Access and safety equipment are now even friendlier for parents with small children. In addition, waiting times are being minimized, since the new lift can carry 3,470 passengers per hour up to meeting point 2000 at 1,970 metres. The Hochalmbahn within view of the Grünwaldkopf top station has also been upgraded. The existing lift was converted into a coupleable 6-seater chairlift, with weather protection and seat heating offering considerable extra comfort for skiers of all ages. The Hochhalmbahn has a carrying capacity of 2,600 passengers per hour and ascends to 2,036 metres.
