Is the energy-saving lamp good for the environment?

ID: 1151807

(firmenpresse) - The energy saving bulb is in terms of energy demand, a big improvement concerning the light bulb. Therefore, the energy saving lamp has a very good image. Nowadays, the question, "the energy saving light bulbs are really good for the environment?", has arisen. The fact that the energy saving lamp can not start without mercury, make them to a hazard at home. Mercury is the most toxic non-radioactive element. If the lamp breaks and the mercury escapes, it is immediately absorbed by the body. The consequences are devastating, damage of the immune system and various other organs. Moreover, the mercury cause a loss of intelligence. By containing mercury, they are not allowed to be thrown in the trash. During the complicated search for a delivery point for energy saving lamps, CO2 emissions are released again. Also problematic is the knowledge for disposal. Most of the energy saving lamps are thrown in the trash and thus into the environment. On top of that, a small part can not be recycled as it is nuclear waste. In terms of life span, the energy-saving lamp is disappointing. By frequent switching on and off, customers can not expect a long lifespan. In addition, energy-saving lamps are losing brightness relatively quickly. Even when it comes to the color of light, energy saving light bulbs can not compete with the LED. Many people feel the light of the energy-saving bulbs to cold and also the newer warm white lamps are unpleasant. By contrast, today, the LED emits a very pleasant light. Also, LEDs offer many other benefits. Compared to the conventional bulb, LEDs consume up to 80% less power. This ensures the rapid return of initial investments and the investment can be profitable. Moreover, LEDs have a lifespan of 30,000 to 50,000 hours. In terms of environmental impact, the LED contains no mercury. This offers advantages in the security of people and concerning the disposal. Also, the LEDs do not have UV or IR radiation. Higher purchase prices of LEDs are the only disadvantage.

However, it should be noted that the cost of the initial investment will be quickly financed through the energy savings. Moreover, in contrast to the energy-saving lamp, there are no new purchase or replacement necessary. LED stands for the light of the future and the transition to glimworm LED products is already the right decision. Energy saving light bulbs are only seen as a temporary solution.
