Watt was yesterday – Lumen and Kelvin are the new main features!
Since 1st September 2012, it has come – any incandescent bulbs are banned.
(firmenpresse) - From now on, incandescent and halogen bulbs may be sold only with the minimum energy class C. Thus, the end of the incandescent bulb was pronounced.
For consumers, this mean rethinking. Consumers should not select new lamps for wattage but after Lumen and Kelvin. Lumen are critical for the brightness and Kelvin for the light color. The higher the lumen, the higher the brightness. Usually the 25 watt incandescent bulb is generating 250lm, while 60 watt is radiating 600lm. In comparison, 7 watt LED Bulb is gernerating 500lm.
The color of light that is perceived as warm- or coldwhite, is given in Kelvin. Basically, for the light color warm white is seen 2700-3300 Kelvin. 4000 Kelvin radiate a neutral white and 6000 Kelvin emitting a daylight white. Thus, in near future, the watt information on the packaging will be of secondary importance. Lumen and Kelvin will be the main features of a purchase decision.
