OC Autism Walk Expects 8,000 Attendees, Including High-Profile Supporters -- 10/13

(firmenpresse) - IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/10/12 -- Over 8,000 community autism supporters are expected to attend the 8th annual Orange County Walk Now for Autism Speaks on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Orange County Great Park's El Toro Field located at 6990 Marine Way in Irvine.

Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum, this fundraising effort generates vital funds for autism research, awareness and family services. Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disorder.

Phillip Palmer, ABC7 Eyewitness News anchor, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

Two Major League Soccer players from Chivas USA will be in attendance, to sign autographs and to provide photo opportunities with walk attendees.

Members of the media are invited to attend the event, interview and photograph participants, volunteers and special guests. Registration begins at 8 a.m., the opening ceremony is at 9:30 a.m. and the walk kicks off at 10 a.m.

The 8th annual Orange County Walk Now for Autism Speaks will take place October 13, 2012 at The Great Park, El Toro Field at 6990 Marine Way in Irvine, CA.

: Autism Speaks is the nation's largest autism advocacy organization, dedicated to increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders, funding research into the causes, prevention and treatments for autism, and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), autism now affects about 1 in every 88 American children, including 1 in 54 boys. Autism is a complex condition that affects a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by behavioral challenges.
