Fully automatic dispatch system at Fachpack 2012
(firmenpresse) - Bizerba shows how time and costs can be saved in parcel delivery (Hall 4, Booth 133)
Balingen, 18th August 2012. - Bizerba is presenting a logistics system, which automatically prepares parcels for dispatch, at Fachpack 2012 in Nurnberg from 25th to 27th September (Hall 4, Booth 133). It weighs and dimensions them, calculates the cheapest mode of dispatch and prepares the dispatch note label. All devices and belts can be controlled via one terminal for the first time. Courier, express and parcel service providers can therefore meet the transparency and speed requirements in global transport and logistics networks.
Dieter Conzelmann, Director Industry Solutions at Bizerba, explains how the automatic dispatch system works: "At the start of the conveyor, a scanner identifies the parcel by the order or delivery note number so that ICT can load all the data about which order it is and what its destination is. It then travels over the CWL ecoflexx and is weighed." After weighing, a volume measurement system established the parcel's height, width and length and calculates its volume.
Software from MHP calculates the cheapest mode of dispatch
Now we know the weight and volume and the V-LOG dispatch software from the company MHP comes into play. Conzelmann: "MHP and Bizerba have been working together on dispatch systems since the end of last year, The software automatically determines the most economical mode of dispatch by deciding, among other things, whether the parcel should be invoiced based on weight or volume weight."
The volume weight calculates the space that a parcel takes up in relation to the weight and is then always the basis for invoicing if it turns out higher than the actual weight. An example: It would not make economic sense to invoice 100 kilograms of cotton wool based on the actual weight. The volume weight must be the basis in this case. "Then the software creates a parcel note, according to the most common carriers' regulations, including DPD, TNT and UPS and sends the data to the box labeller GLM-B 700 1T, which attaches the label to the parcel from above, using the real-time compatible control software _logisticsEngine.BRAIN."
Central control intelligence brings together scales, volume measuring system and labeller
For the first time, conveyor belts, price labellers, the volume measuring system and scales can be controlled using just one terminal: the iS50.
Conzelmann: "Until now, an additional control (PLC) was always necessary, for example to operate the roller conveyors before or after the scales. Companies can now do without this, saving space and costs and reducing the complexity of their production processes. "You can connect the terminal to ICT and even carry out programming yourself, for example design the display how you like and adapt the user interface to your own needs.
The new CWL ecoflexx in-motion scales
Bizerba is presenting the latest version of the CWL eco in-motion scales at Fachpack: the CWL ecoflexx. It has a so-called four cell weighing technology. A weighing cell is installed on each corner of the frame so that exceptionally large belt assemblies up to three metres long can now also be realised without any weighing inaccuracy. Courier, express and parcel service providers can therefore weigh a much greater product range.
The scales can even be tilted up to 20° and integrated into ascending conveyors. It is legal-for-trade approved and weighs up to a speed of 2.7 metres a second.
Automatic control during storage and picking
The CWL ecoflexx is also suitable for automatic storage. "Just imagine", continues Conzelmann, "an engineering works receives a box from a supplier which is supposed to contain seven units of an item according to the delivery note. The scales have a counting application so that employees do not have to convince themselves of this being correct manually. It identifies the product using the scan and then refers to the reference weight in the database. It can now work out the number of units from the total weight of the box. The same function is also suitable for checking that picking is complete."
