Hyde Park Concert Celebrates the Final Stop on the Olympic Torch's Journey
Celebrations will take place in the capital to mark the arrival of the Olympic torch into the capital and the start of the London 2012 Olympics
(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 07/17/12 -- On 26 July 2012 a concert for 80,000 people will be taking place in London's Hyde Park to mark the Olympic torch finishing its travels and arriving in London, for the start of the 2012 Olympic Games. The concert will be hosted by Coca Cola and will be headlined by a number of top acts, including Dizzee Rascal, The Wanted, Eliza Doolittle and Mark Ronson. The Olympic Flame dates back to the Ancient Greeks who had a flame constantly burning outside the Olympia. Today, before the start of every Olympic Games, a flame is lit, taken for a short relay around Greece and then transported to the host country. There, it travels the distance of the country, and this year it will have been carried by over 800 inspirational British people. The final torch bearer will light the cauldron with the flame during the Opening Ceremony to mark the official start of the London 2012 Olympics.
In the UK, the torch relay began on the 19 May 2012 in Land's End and by the time it finishes it will have seen 66 nights of celebrations across the country. It will stop at the Olympic Stadium, while the celebration concert takes place in Hyde Park.
Cities such as Cardiff and Glasgow have already hosted concerts with performances from artists, including Emelie Sande and popular boyband The Wanted. Performers at the London Hyde Park concert include Duran Duran, Snowpatrol, Stereophonics and Paolo Nutini and tickets have been sold for just GBP 15.
