Technology meets spring: QR codes on dresses

Balingen, 5 April 2012 – Do you know the QR code? The matrix with black and white dots? Scan it with a smartphone and you get multimedia information on the product on the internet. The code is spreading like wildfire: you can find it in magazines, on posters and on packaging. And now even on dresses.

Dressmaker Pia Fischer has worked with 500 QR labels in order to design dresses on behalf of Bizerba. Models will be turning heads with these works of art at Bizerba's stand at the Anuga FoodTec trade fair in Cologne from 27 to 30 March 2012.

Fischer's concept did take a while to come together. She recalls: "There are more than 50 hours of work in each and every dress. It took some time for me to work out how I would combine functionality and design, as the labels didn't just have to look good and have the feel of spring-like flowers, but also photograph well." But the effort paid off: "It's fun to break traditional boundaries. I give my creativity free reign and put my heart and soul into it."

Pia Fischer has already designed dresses for the Bizerba stand at the EuroShop 2012 trade fair and has created quite a buzz. The dressmaker, who lives in Berlin and has been designing unique and unusual collections for more than 35 years, describes her work like this: "The whole idea is that I don't work with fabrics in the classic sense, but rather with the more secondary tools from the world of couture. I transform these components that are actually supposed to be functional materials, such as labels and zips, buttons and ties, into wearable pieces of art."
