Retailo pushes forward e-money system / Leading Gift card marketer sets up its own payment division
Retailo, the specialist in the distribution of gift cards in Germany, Austria and Switzerland is starting to set up its own open loop division for prepaid cards. Rolf Janssen, who was most recently responsible for prepaid products at MasterCard Europe, is now responsible for the new division.
(firmenpresse) - In Germany, prepaid open loop systems are still a low level market, in relation to traditional credit and debit cards - but with very dynamic growth rates. Experiences from other markets in the USA and Europe show that retail distribution networks play a key role in the success of the card programmes. With its distribution network covering more than 30,000 shops, Retailo has the ideal conditions for raising the existing growth potential. In addition to the inclusion of products of selected banking partners in the distribution network, Retailo will also offer its own open loop prepaid solutions. In the long term, the Cologne-based company is planning to apply for its own e-money licence for the European Economic Area. With this, the company meets the require-ments for quickly offering open loop solutions for the partners in the banking- and in the retail sector, and thus for providing the necessary boost for prepaid products in Germany.
