Goodbye to long waiting times: solutions for quick dispatch
(firmenpresse) - Bizerba at LogiMAT 2012 in Stuttgart (hall 5, stand 531)
Balingen,22 February 2012 – The excitement will begin to build for the logistics industry when, on 13 March, the LogiMAT trade fair in Stuttgart opens its doors for the tenth time. More than 700 international exhibitors will be showcasing new technologies for distribution and material and information flows. Among them will be Bizerba, in hall 5, stand 531. The products that the company will be presenting include an automatic dispatch system, a checkweigher that guarantees compliant portion sizes, even in a tilted position and a compact work station for order picking and dispatching.
Calculate dimensional weight / find the right location for interim storage / utilise transport vehicle capacity optimally
Now more than ever, companies are facing the challenge of delivering goods as quickly as possible so as to stay competitive in the era of Amazon and co. Bizerba's DWS system takes on all of the key tasks in continuous operation: it scans and identifies packages with an omnidirectional barcode scanner, weighs them with the CWL Eco checkweigher, measures them with a volume measurement system (VMS), automatically determines the cheapest delivery option using software developed by the partner company MHP and applies the package label with the GLM-L labeller.
Dimensional weight plays a decisive role for large dispatchers and forwarders, explains Dieter Conzelmann, Director of Industry Solutions. "It is the basis for charging when it turns out to be higher than the actual weight. For example: to charge 100 kilograms of cotton wool by weight would be ludicrous from an economic point of view. The dimensional weight, however, reflects the space that a package takes up in relation to the weight." And it can also be used for other things: "This system can help with intralogistics, for example: you can find the perfect place for interim storage, or make sure that the capacity of your transport vehicles is being used optimally."
RFID coding in the area of UHR is also possible. The reader/writer unit can be integrated into the printing unit without taking up additional space. And despite this, only one port is needed to connect the printer to the ERP/MES system. The advantages of this easy link process are easy handling as well as a high degree of protection against errors and data consistency. Bizerba's Bochum branch, Labels and Consumables, supplies the appropriate smart labels.
The facility can be controlled comfortably with the iS70 touch screen terminal, even when wearing gloves. The glass-film-glass (GFG) surface technology is new: on top of the actual film layer that reacts to pressure, there is a glass plate that makes the terminal resistant to chemicals and scratches. The user interface's intuitive design means that even untrained personnel can cope with the device without requiring long introductory periods.
The magic of physics: scales in a tilted position
The CWL Eco seems to defy the laws of physics as it can now weigh in a tilted position. Conzelmann explains how producers can save space thanks to this: "Normally before weighing you need a belt to balance out the height difference with the upstream device. The CWL Eco now completes this task itself, whilst still weighing accurately and according to requirements."
The stainless steel casing meets protection class IP 65 and is therefore suited to use in an industrial environment as well as daily cleaning with water and cleaning agents.
Work station for manual order picking and dispatching
Bizerba presents a work station for manual order picking and dispatching. It comprises a worktop with an integrated load carrier, a central PC unit, the iS50 weighing terminal, a hand scanner and the GLP-160 RFID printer.
The employee sees the current order on a screen. He lays an empty box on a set of tabletop scales and scans the required item. The iS50 weighing terminal then relates this to a reference weight from the database and works out when the ordered quantity of pieces has been reached by taking into account the weight of the box. Particularly small parts can therefore be picked in a time-saving manner.
The software V-LOG developed by the company MHP supports the dispatch management, takes into account the requirements of the different transport carriers – DPD, GLS, DHL and UPS – and complies with requirements in combination with the checkweigher. The employee then prints the dispatch note and the box is ready for dispatch. It can also print RFID-enabled smart labels if desired.
