Transitions Optical Launches Healthy Sight Calculator
Nearly Half of U.S. Workforce Not Taking Advantage of Vision Benefit
(firmenpresse) - PINELLAS PARK, FL -- (Marketwire) -- 10/11/11 -- As benefits enrollment season begins, Transitions Optical, Inc. research shows nearly half of employees are not fully taking advantage of their company's vision benefit, leaving themselves at higher risk for eye-related and overall health problems that can be detected through an eye exam, and for vision issues that can be addressed with proper eyewear.
Transitions Optical developed the in an effort to help individuals see the full picture of what a vision benefit can do for them. This includes for early detection of eye and overall health problems, an up-to-date prescription to maintain productivity day-to-day, and eyewear features like to preserve and enhance vision. The free, online tool allows visitors to see their risk for eye-related diseases and vision problems compared with the national average, and to calculate how much they could save -- in time, money and sight -- with the right vision care and vision wear through a vision benefit. Results vary based on age, gender and ethnicity, all of which impact risk for vision problems and health issues that can affect the eyes.
The calculator summarizes risks and related costs for 11 vision-related issues in three categories:
(Trouble Seeing Up-Close, Trouble Seeing Far Away, Eyestrain and Fatigue, Severe Headaches From Light and Glare);
(Cataracts, Diabetic Retinopathy, Elevated Intraocular Pressure, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration);
(Pre-diabetes, Undiagnosed High Blood Pressure).
The Healthy Sight Calculator takes visitors along a path to better understand individual risk and potential savings while providing tips along the way.
Visitors enter their age, gender, ethnicity, and whether they have health insurance.
With each selection, the calculator provides details on how the individual's demographics impact his or her risk.
The calculator considers health insurance when determining how much an individual could pay out-of-pocket in medical costs for different eye- and overall-health issues.
Visitors are encouraged to take the calculator's printable summary to their next eye appointment.
Pat Huot, director of managed vision care, Transitions Optical: "The calculator helps tell the story of what you could be missing if you don't care for your sight. It's a powerful way to motivate more people to use their vision benefit and get the care they need."
