In conjunction with her studies, Tortorella was an account executive at Happy Valley Communications, a student-run public relations firm. During her time as an intern at Penn State Public Broadcasting she helped launch a national campaign promoting the auction of Penn State football coach, Joe Paterno's iconic coke-bottle glasses. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Kappa Tau Alpha, two national honor fraternities that invite the top 10 percent of college students to join.
