An athletic hurdle race. dbh Logistics IT AG completes development of Entry Summary Declaration in 10 countries for Hamburg Sud.
The Hamburg Sud Group decided on dbh Logistics IT AG’s solution for Entry Sum-mary Declaration (ENS) in mid-2010. The joint project of Hamburg Sud and dbh has been going strong ever since. The objective is to implement and conduct Entry Summary Declaration in a total of 11 European countries. To date, interfaces have been successfully implemented between Hamburg Sud’s systems and the respective national customs in 10 countries. In the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, the UK, Portugal, Cyprus, France, Malta, Belgium, and Germany, dbh’s solution facilitates seamless processing of shipments for the Hamburg-based company. The interface for Greece - the last of the 11 planned countries - is currently undergoing final testing by customs.
(firmenpresse) - Entry Summary Declaration is a part of the European Import Control System (ICS) and aims to bring about uniform risk analysis at the European level and faster processing and release of goods after arrival in the port. It is implemented at Ham-burg Sud through the reliable, user-friendly solution Advantage Pre-Declaration by dbh. Advantage Pre-Declaration (APD) was developed by dbh to meet the needs of airlines, freight forwarders, and shipping companies, such as Hamburg Sud, for effi-cient, seamless processing of Entry Summary Declaration.
Clearing international hurdles. “Every EU country has its own national regulations and specifications which we had to take into account when developing the interfac-es between customs and our solution Advantage Pre-Declaration,” explains Martin de Vries, Vice President Customs Solutions at dbh Logistics IT AG. “The European requirements are very well regulated, but every country has its own emphases when it comes to import and export, necessitating local adjustments. We have been able to successfully navigate and clear these hurdles,” says de Vries.
Paul Wenger, Director of Hamburg Sud Commercial Management, found the entire joint project to be an “athletic challenge that has been successfully mastered.” “It certainly was not easy to reconcile all of the requirements, but we managed to do it together with dbh. The result was a professional, cross-national solution,” says Paul Wenger.
This demanding situation was made a bit easier by the client’s local offices on site. “Direct, on-site contact with the customs authorities and companies involved is al-ways important in order to successfully and quickly implement a project,” confirms Martin de Vries.
Thanks to Advantage Pre-Declaration, the goods declaration status at Hamburg Sud is always transparent and allows employees to maintain continuous control of the stream of goods. Data are exchanged with the respective national customs in real-time. Easy, user-friendly software simplifies the customs process for the huge con-tainer ships from Hamburg.
Work on implementing Entry Summary Declaration in the 11 planned countries has been in full swing since July 2010; the summer of 2011 now marks the project’s completion. Hamburg Sud’s expertise in maritime traffic and its strong European network along with dbh’s intelligent software solution created a strong foundation for the project’s success.
