Aherhammer invests in high-precision automatic stamping machine
Short lead times for development and manufacture of perforated plate and sheet products
(firmenpresse) - Driven by the growing number of orders for complex shapes of perforated sheet, Lochanstalt Aherhammer has added a high-precision, high-capacity automatic stamping machine to its machine pool. Highly complex parts are now processed on a single production line, resulting in further reduced lead times.
The new automatic stamping machine, which operates with up to 500 strokes per minute, increases the capacity of the existing, integrated production line by 25 percent. This line is used to produce complex-shaped screens for dish washers. For example, a calotte in a perforated drain plate for an industrial dish washer must have an exact fit with the container edge. An offset of just a few tenths of a millimeter would already affect the proper functioning of the plate.
The new automatic stamping machine operates directly from the coil. The stamped and preformed sheets are directly fed to the downstream transfer press which performs all finishing stages in up to seven steps.
Sometimes already minute deviations from the desired shape may impair the appearance or functionality of a perforated sheet or plate in a product. Examples are household appliances, personal computers, loudspeaker boxes or dashboards in cars. In these cases it is vital to manufacture with utmost precision and have a reliable and reproducible production process.
For Aherhammer, precision and short set-up times were two key aspects when selecting the new machine, as the company is specialized in complex, high-precision sheet products - also produced in small lots. Therefore Aherhammer decided in favour of a machine with an extraordinarily rigid press frame made of nodular cast iron and high-precision guiding of the rams.
Wolfgang Flender, Managing Partner of Lochanstalt Aherhammer, explains: "By investing in the new machine, we have accelerated the entire chain from the initial idea of a product through to its series production. As a company with an own toolmaking shop, we are in a position to produce prototypes in an extremely short time. This short implementation time pays off especially for innovative products. Also in series production, the new automatic stamping machine has contributed to further reduced lead times."
He explains this by way of a recent example: "Not long ago we developed a reinforcing plate for a supplier of automobile parts. No more than twelve months elapsed from the first meeting until the delivery of the first parts - including the development of the tools."
