Flexible battery sensor ICs for efficient battery management systems in all vehicle types
Isabellenhütte Heusler and austriamicrosystems enter into cooperation agreement
(firmenpresse) - Isabellenhütte is one of the pioneers in current and voltage measurement of 12 V vehicle batteries. In 2002, the company introduced the ISA-ASIC, the world’s first all-in-one measuring system for current, voltage and temperature for electronic battery management. Together with the Austrian company austriamicrosystems, which is an international leader in the field of design and production of high-performance analogue ICs, the company has produced numerous ICs for 12 V vehicle systems in recent years.
This longstanding successful working relationship has now led to a cooperation agreement being signed by both companies to focus their expertise. This will provide them with advantages for future development work and drive market penetration. Both austriamicrosystems and Isabellenhütte have already introduced sustainable solutions for measuring the current of 12 V and 24 V batteries and also high-voltage systems for hybrid and electric vehicles and will now jointly continue developing their products.
“We feel that by joining forces with austriamicrosystems in our development work, we are increasing our opportunities for developing and producing flexible and adaptable sensor systems”, says Peter Müller, Managing director of Isabellenhütte Heusler GmbH & Co. KG.
“We have found a renowned partner in Isabellenhütte, whose precision sensor solutions are highly regarded in the automotive industry. We anticipate that demand for ICs will continue to rise, as battery management is a key technology for hybrid and electric vehicles”, explains Bernhard Czar, Marketing Director of the Automotive division of austriamicrosystems AG.

About Isabellenhütte Heusler
The developments of Isabellenhütte are technological benchmarks: In 1889, the company invented Manganin, a copper-manganese-nickel alloy, which is being used to this day in precision resistors for current measurement as it has excellent properties. In 1987, Isabellenhütte was the first enterprise in the world to produce SMD mOhm current measuring shunts. Today, it belongs to the leading manufacturers of low-impedance precision and power resistors. In 2002, Isabellenhütte used its knowledge on current measuring technology for developing the world’s first high-precision measurement system for current, voltage and temperature in vehicles based on resistance material.
The company’s roots stretch back over 500 years in metal smelting and processing. First recorded in 1482, the company has been owned by the Heusler family since 1827. Around 500 staff are employed at the company headquarters and production works in Dillenburg (Hesse).
