(firmenpresse) - Bizerba presents intelligent hardware and software solutions at IFFA 2010

Balingen, May 7th 2010 - Like all industrial sectors in an era of fast paced markets and globalisation the meat-processing industry is facing the challenge of controlling product inventories and material movements and reliably preventing errors. The company generates important competitive advantages by always knowing, what, when, where, in what amount and quality and at what costs goods can be produced and delivered. Efficiency means, improving processes, reducing shortages and incorrect deliveries, optimally exploiting existing capacities, guaranteeing better use of materials based on weight statistics and thus being able to control costs better.

Bizerba has a correspondingly broad range of solutions for synchronous product and data flow from incoming goods to dispatch. Quantities of goods are reliably recorded, dimensions are determined, packages labelled and the collected data is prepared in a suitable format. The modular combination possibilities of hardware and software, mutually coordinated consumables and an efficient service enable individual, open and highly scalable solutions for the industry. In the process everything is interlinked: the exact weighing, automated product labelling in accordance with all recognised standards and the further processing in higher-level systems.

“Our expertise which has been refined over decades forms the basis for practical solutions for the meat-processing industry. In all process steps, whether it be receipt of raw materials, the recipe of ingredients or further processing, commissioning, labelling and finally dispatch, Bizerba guarantees hardware and software component transparency in all operation procedures and thus increased growth and market success”, says Dieter Conzelmann, Director Industry Solutions at Bizerba.

Expensive control mechanisms are unnecessary: check deliveries for completeness directly at incoming goods using the software _statistics.BRAIN

When the raw materials arrive in a meat-processing company, AQL random samples in accordance with ISO 2859 can be carried out directly at incoming goods using the ST industrial terminal; either in combination with load receptors with access ramps or with the version integrated into the floor. The ST terminal is at the same time the interface between the load receptor, PC and peripherals. Communication takes place using the Bizerba Communication Tool (BCT) with a higher-level ICT system. If tolerance violations should occur an alarm informs the service personnel on site and at the same time production management. They can compare the deliveries with the order data using the _statistics.BRAIN software so that service personnel can reject any incorrect weight or incomplete shipments directly at incoming goods.

These kind of quality checks using production staff shorten response times and make expensive control mechanisms unnecessary. Industrial scales, control scales, labelling systems and printers can be conveniently and safely connected to ICT systems using the Bizerba BCT standard interface. Regardless of the type of device connected, they communicate via the standardised BxNet language. The whole visualisation, evaluation, assessment and backing up of data is centralised.

Build trust in retail and end customers – Bizerba guarantees conformity with all weighing technology devices

In the Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML) organisation, representatives from almost 100 states work on standardised design and testing regulations for all measuring devices. Germany is represented here by the Physical Technical University of Braunschweig. Certificates attest that a certain measuring device design complies with the OIML recommendations. In this way a design tested and approved in one country can also be approved in another country without repeat testing. Bizerba guarantees that OIML compatible calibrated devices weigh exactly what the international prototype kilogram demands. If this were not the case, too much might be paid in the retail chain at incoming goods or at the POS without it being noticed.

Control scales and _statistics.BRAIN optimise quality assurance

Bizerba is showing the CWE 1500 double track at IFFA for the first time. The control scales can process up to 800 packages a minute. If less throughput is demanded then the transport speed of the line is halved and the product flow is stabilised using the double track solution. This saves space and thus costs. Metal detectors and ink jet printers can be integrated without any problems, just like sorting systems, for example air jets, pushers, points, catchers and folding conveyor belts. An x-ray scanner is connected upstream to the CWE at IFFA. In this way the products can also be checked for non-metallic contaminations on both tracks. The use of x-ray scanners particularly make sense where metal detectors are ruled out because of the system: for example with metallic packaging or products with metal lids.

In production the CWE checkweigher prevents incorrect weight packages from getting into circulation. It weighs and classifies according to freely defined or statutory weight categories and automatically rejects incorrect weight packages from the production line. The monitoring of the control scales is very simple. All important information on the controlling of a process are graphically illustrated on a colour display. Production management can centrally evaluate this data and produce long-term statistics using _statistics.BRAIN. Filling quantity checking and process control from incoming goods to outgoing goods can be guaranteed using this software. It provides statistics on materials, machinery, batches, shifts and alarms over freely selectable periods of time. It supplies weight and attribute tests, controls process and production procedures and creates an insight into the production process thanks to detailed logging. With impermissible deviations the responsible member of staff on site can directly intervene in the production process, improve it and reduce unpleasant extra work as well as the share of rejects.

Rejects incorrect weight packages: the Bizerba CWE control scales

Data logs are automatically saved in accordance with the EU ordinance 178/2002 on traceability of goods. This seamless documentation of quality attributes makes the CWE into an ideal quality assurance tool for industry and retail, according to Conzelmann. “In the long-term no company can afford a loss of image as a result of poor product quality or lost profits due to a high proportion of give-aways. The consistent improvement of processes reduces expensive overfilling, extra work and rejects. The investment also pays off accordingly quickly.”

New checkweigher for unpackaged goods

Bizerba is also presenting the next generation of checkweighers for unpackaged goods at IFFA 2010. The devices are designed to be easy to clean and are therefore ideally suited to use in direct contact with food. The robust design allows for rigorous cleaning, reduces maintenance time and expense and guarantees maximum availability.

Strong partnerships create flexible packaging and labelling ranges

“We want to present a system to the meat-processing industry which consists of Bizerba products and those of our international partners and allows for more efficient production processes for everything to do with packaging, weighing, checking and labelling”, says Conzelmann.

Individual packages are sealed in the Multivac tray sealer and automatically forwarded to the Bizerba GLM-I 170 price labeller. An optical detection system is installed above the conveyor belt. It differentiates between the trays and thus activates the right identification number for each article for weighing and labelling with the Bizerba GLM-I 170 price labelling machines.

The GLM-I 170 attaches a TTI system label to the package. This label is charged with UV ink and appears in dark blue. The higher the environment temperature during the transport of fresh food, the quicker the colour turns white. The labels are perfect freshness detectors and can be a valuable aid for consumers in judging the freshness of individual products. The TTI also facilitates handling in the supply chain, as it makes it possible for suppliers to sort spoilt goods before receipt. The goods can be sorted according to degrees of freshness and if needs be sold as on special offer, if they are at the end of their life cycle. As with sales the condition of the TTI label is scanned at the shop cash register and the condition of goods is therefore recorded, the retailer can prove in claims that the goods left the shop unspoilt.

C-wrap labelling is also shown on the GLM-I. This enables labels to be fixed from three sides, from above, from the side and from below. The GLM-I 170 is a price labeller from the GLM-I range which is specifically optimised for the highly efficient labelling of small package weights. The modular design within the GLM-I range allows the combination of weighing units with all labelling systems, even the GLM-I 170 has air jet, stamping, belt and rotation applicators. Bizerba is exhibiting the new belt labeller for labelling on the underside of packages, which is specifically designed for very large labels in proportion to the package dimensions.

The Vision System from Bizerba’s subsidiary company BES is integrated into the GLM-I 170 mechanically and from a control point of view. It fulfils different tasks depending on the activated article record: it is checked whether the applied TTI label is activated and a data matrix code exists or whether the text on the C-wrap label is correct. The content of the packages can also be used for consistency against reference images and counting. Incorrect packages are displayed.

The trays finally arrive at the case packer from the company CPS. This automatically packs four trays into one E1 box. Then in the next step the boxes are weighed on the Bizerba CWL Eco checkweigher. The scales have different programmes like counting, tolerance checks and failure recognition and reach a conveyance speed of up to two metres a second.

Finally the boxes are labelled using the GLM-B. The flexible packaging labeller allows for labelling from the side, as well as from above. “The GLM-B is particularly suitable for printing labels in sizes up to 120 by 150 millimetres. It labels using air jet and stamping applications and thanks to its huge variety of interfaces it can be integrated without any problems into labelling ranges”, concludes Conzelmann.

Bizerba guarantees low downtime thanks to reliable service

In the service department Bizerba places great importance on professional advice and committed customer support on everything to do with issues of application, operation and data security. Wherever possible, valuable components from machines, printers, network parts, hard discs, boards are always repaired. Thanks to its own repairs department in Balingen, which can repair about 500 components without any problem, Bizerba guarantees the necessary high quality and durable device units. “Customers save cash because professional support is of course more cost-effective than new purchases and our products’ life cycles are optimised”, says Robert Keller, Director Business Services at Bizerba. Software problems can also be remedied by remote maintenance using e-service, so that downtime can also be minimised here.

Each service technician is equipped with the Bizerba service information system, the Mobile SIS, which automatically orders replacement parts. “The customer informs us by calling our call centre. An order is raised and sent to the control station, the SIS Control Centre. From there the member of staff sends all required information, for example specific details on replacement part management and the device history, via GRPS/UMTS to the pocket PC of the relevant technician on site”, explains Keller. The replacement of used spare parts is also automatic. The technician automatically has these in stock in his vehicle the following day and does not have to worry about reordering.
