Today’s Expectations for Large Format Scanners
Large format scanner users expect fast and effective devices that are easy to operate. A large format scanner meeting today’s expectations might look something like this: ready for use in a few minutes without installation work; a scanner that is operating system independent, a scanner that reaches an unrivalled scan speed and an uncompromising scan quality, a scanner that scans very long documents and processes large volumes of data quickly and safely. Large format scanners outfitted with the patented Scan2Net® technology meet all of these demands for a state-of-the-art scanner.
(firmenpresse) - The HTML based Scan2Net® technology is the platform for operating the scanner. Scanners outfitted with this technology require only a network connection and can be used with every operating system. For more than ten years, this intelligent platform has provided users of not only Windows based PCs but all operating systems including Linux and MacOS to quickly and conveniently digitalize with Scan2Net® scanners.
With only few steps, the user configures the device for operation: unpack the scanner, set it up, connect the power cord and the network cable and switch on the device. The installation work is minimal. Scan software or special drivers are not required. The only prerequisite: a network connection and a browser.
The user operates the scanner using any standard web browser via the protocol TCP/IP. Every operator in the network can access the device via the IP address. The scanner is therefore available for all departments in a company.
The scanner provides the user interface. The easy-to-operate user interface allows the configuration of the scanner, the installation of software options and firmware updates.
Scan2Net® scanners are fundamentally different in their architecture from conventional large format scanners. The core of the device is a PC with a specially compiled Linux kernel and up to three GBytes of RAM. This high processing power ensures fast data throughput. The integration of the built in PC in the scanner results in some very unique advantages: extremely high scan speeds, excellent scan results, fast and effective data processing independent from the user’s own PC.
The client independence enables durable scanning at maximum speed without interruptions. Due to the high internal storage capacity, the device even scans very long documents with maximum color depth (36 bit) and high resolution without stopping to cache data.
In addition to the Scan2Net® architecture, the state of the art optical system is also responsible for uncompromising scan quality. All image processing functions such as gamma correction, noise filter, saturation etc., are executed inside the scanner and can therefore have access to the complete camera source data. This better preserves the color information and resolution, when compared to conventional scanners.
Because the scanner is absolutely PC independent, it can be used as a stand-alone device. Operators can connect an external monitor to the scanner and operate it via the built-in touch screen. After scanning a source document once and if desired, modifying and improving the image output, the data can be sent either to an FTP server, USB stick, to the windows network or to a network printer or even sent via email.
The Scan2Net® technology is an integral part of all WideTEK large format scanners, the Bookeye® planetary scanners as well as many scanners of numerous well-known scanner vendors.
