Supplier of Automotive Security Systems Streamlines its Data Centre Management
Key Safety Systems centralises server management with ATEN solution
(firmenpresse) - Taipei, Taiwan, December 15, 2008. The European central office of Key Safety Systems, a renowned supplier of security systems and security-related components to the automobile industry, has implemented the ALTUSEN KM0432 Matrix KVM switch from ATEN International, leading designer and manufacturer of advanced connectivity solutions, to centralise its server management. This KVM switch allows administrators to synchronously access their servers, while offering a high degree of reliability, flexibility and scalability for the growing server environment.
Key Safety Systems (KSS) is a worldwide leader in the development and production of safety restraint systems and products, supplying automobile manufacturers such as VW, Toyota, Fiat, Ford, PSA Peugeot Citroën and General Motors with airbags, seat belts, steering wheels, crash test sensors, fully integrated safety systems and more. At Raunheim, the European central office of KSS, all airbags and safety components for the European market are developed, tested and released for serial production.
Over recent years, the company has enjoyed steady growth. Faced with this growth, the previous KVM switch solution started to fail to meet the day-to-day requirements of a modern IT administration. To address this issue, Key Safety Systems and its IT service provider Perot Systems decided to find a contemporary solution for its data centre. BellEquip, a supplier of high-availability data communication, server and remote management solutions, advised KSS in their purchase decision and suggested ATEN’s KM0432, a 4-console, 32-port Matrix KVM Switch from the ALTUSEN enterprise product line, as it would provide the best price/performance for the given range of application. “KSS was looking for a reliable, flexible and scalable KVM solution that would allow the three IT administrators to efficiently manage the growing IT infrastructure, which currently shows about 300 computer workstations and 25 servers. For this, the KM0432 is the optimal solution offering solid technology, transmitting good video quality and all this at an unrivalled price,” confirmed Thomas Mussnig, Managing Director of BellEquip.
After a testing phase at KSS, the KM0432 was rapidly implemented into the company’s network. “We integrated the KM0432 within only three to four hours. A shutdown of the system would not have been necessary, but we decided to do so for security reasons and had almost no downtime,” says Nikos Haberlah, Project Manager at Perot Systems. “The KM0432 offered exactly what we expected: an extremely user-friendly, out-of-the-box solution that runs smoothly.”
The advantages of the KM0432 are apparent to the team: it is closer to hardware than software tools, reduces cabling, and guarantees secure, reliable access to the system allowing administrators to independently and simultaneously control up to 32 multiplatform servers from four consoles. In addition, the KM0432 is extremely scalable. By daisy chaining up to seven additional units or cascading 32 compatible KVM switches, the device supports up to 4096 computers, at total capacity giving KSS the reassurance of ultimate scalability.
Since its implementation at Key Safety Systems, the KM0432 has proved to be a very mature and reliable product: “The project was a complete success! So far, we never had any problems with the new Matrix KVM switch at KSS. The server management is running smoothly and all administrators are very happy with its performance,” concludes Patrick Velte, IT Manager at Perot Systems. “If you are looking for a high-end solution with a good price/performance ratio to be used in an environment without special disruptive factors, ATEN is the right place to go”, he says. And looking towards the future, thanks to the whole positive experience of Key Safety Systems Raunheim, the company is interested in implementing ATEN’s server management solution in other European locations, too.
