Formula One news: Hamilton will be on the attack
The French GP was a Ferrari tour de force. During free practice, it was already apparent that the Scuderia were going to be in a league of their own at Magny Cours.
(firmenpresse) - "As early as Friday morning, everyone could see that Ferrari were very strong here and were going to have a clear edge over the rest of us," said BMW Director of Motorsport Mario Theissen in conversation with motorsport-magazin.com. "In free practice, they were able to disguise this fact to some extent, but their superiority became obvious in qualifying," agreed Marc Surer who expected Ferrari to have an easy time of it on race day.
And that's exactly how it turned out - even a broken exhaust pipe on Kimi Räikkönen's car couldn't stop the team taking first and second podium spots. "But you can’t necessarily extrapolate from this what is going to happen on other tracks," added Theissen, by way of encouragement to the rest of the field. "Magny Cours is always something of a special case and it would be wrong to draw general conclusions. All the same, I am sure that at the moment, Ferrari have the fastest car wherever they race." Adrian Sutil shares this assessment. "But we shouldn't forget McLaren," says the Force India driver in an interview with motorsport-magazin.com. "Silverstone is a home race for them and also for Lewis; that's bound to spur him on and he'll be on the attack once again."
