Nuclear power to keep uranium booming

ID: 721871

(PresseBox) - The demand for uranium is increasing, not least due to the small modular reactors.

Nuclear power is becoming increasingly important as a reliable and climate-friendly source of energy. SMRs score points with various advantages. They require less space and incur lower costs for grid expansion. Now the energy supply company Ontario Power Generation can start construction of the first small modular reactor (SMR). Both the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the province of Ontario have given their approval. Energy production is scheduled to start at the end of 2030. Four SMRs are planned. All four together will be able to supply around 1.2 million households with electricity.

It has been more than 30 years since the last nuclear power plant was built in Ontario. Something could also happen in Italy when it comes to nuclear power. Italy turned its back on nuclear power almost 40 years ago. Plans are now being drawn up to return to nuclear energy. Like many other countries, Italy also wants to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve greater energy security. There are plans to set up a state-backed company that can produce SMRs. Although SMRs only produce around a third of the energy of a conventional nuclear power plant, they can be produced in a factory and are much smaller. It remains to be seen whether Italy will return to nuclear energy. Many residents are still against it. But in many other countries, Fukushima is a thing of the past and the safety of nuclear power plants has also developed considerably.

As a result, many countries are now focusing on the growing trend towards the use of nuclear energy. The importance of a stable energy supply has only recently been seen in Spain and Portugal. IsoEnergy and Uranium Energy take care of the uranium supply.

IsoEnergy - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/isoenergy-ltd/ - owns high-grade uranium deposits with large current and historical resources in Saskatchewan (Athabasca Basin), Australia, Argentina and the USA. In addition, there is a portfolio of licensed conventional uranium and vanadium mines in Utah.

Uranium Energy - https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/uranium-energy-corp/ - is the largest licensed uranium producer in the USA and is debt-free. The ISR uranium projects are located in the USA, with additional projects in Canada.
