Research is now being carried out in the areas of cancer and Parkinson s disease, for example, to determine the extent to which the use of gold can bring success. At least under laboratory conditions, the addition of gold can kill cancer cells more effectively. The latest research is also focusing on a device, or more precisely a plaster, that can attack bacteria on the skin and prevent infections by incorporating gold. All of these medical applications require only very small amounts of the precious metal. This will not have a major impact on the demand for gold, but it does highlight the growing importance of the precious metal.
A year ago, a troy ounce of gold cost around 2,000 US dollars, today it costs more than 2,700 US dollars - a huge leap. And if the experts are to be believed, the end of the road has not yet been reached, as the fundamentals alone suggest. Investments in physical gold or in the stocks of mining companies that are on the trail of the precious metal or perhaps already producing it are therefore still an option. Anyone who benefits from an inheritance or gift, for example, could invest a portion in gold. In 2023, more euros were bequeathed or given away in Germany than ever before - 121.5 billion euros. These billions are only the amount recorded by the tax authorities, as taxes were incurred. The majority of inheritances, legacies and gifts are within the tax-free amounts.
