DEBATIN packaging solutions become even more sustainable
Household waste streams are now best used for PCR films
(PresseBox) - but are difficult to recycle. Anton Debatin GmbH and PreZero Flexible Packaging GmbH are making packaging solutions more sustainable through intelligent recycling.
Anton Debatin GmbH is launching its next sustainable innovation in collaboration with PreZero Flexible Packaging GmbH. For years, the Bruchsal-based packaging experts have been associated with sustainable packaging solutions, some of which use post-consumer recycled (PCR) film. "We have been using films made from PCR material for years for a large proportion of our products, which contain more than 80% PCR," says Debatin CEO Thomas Rose. Thanks to PreZero s expertise, the new end product contains 60% PCR material, with 50% coming from materials collected through the household recycling system, including plastic packaging and mixed recyclables. "Thanks to its innovative recycling technology, PreZero can incorporate household waste streams into the production of PCR film, even though this type of raw material is often highly contaminated and contains a variety of material combinations," continues Thomas Rose.
The collaboration between PreZero and Debatin is not new but has existed within the Deriba Group for many years. On this, Frank Rieker, Managing Director of PreZero Polymers International GmbH, adds: "Thanks to our long-standing partnership with DEBATIN within the DERIBA Group, we are highly familiar with their requirements for PCR plastics. Using our own sorting and recycling technology, we can produce PCR plastics for DEBATIN from household waste streams. This means that even this extremely difficult-to-process waste is finding its way into recycling, contributing to a more sustainable packaging world."
Debatin has supplemented the more sustainable PCR film with improvements to its own machinery and processes. It now offers even more sustainable packaging solutions to healthcare customers for transporting laboratory samples, and the well-known Debatin security packaging for many other industries and national banks.
