Hydrogen as a beacon of hope
(PresseBox) - Hydrogen could become the most important energy carrier of the future. Large hydrogen projects are now being launched.
China in particular is focusing on the production of hydrogen. But the USA and Germany are also promoting hydrogen projects. Starting in 2023, Germany will pump around 30 million euros into four hydrogen projects in Namibia. It sounds too good to be true: hydrogen produces no CO2 and burns cleanly to form water. Various industries are looking into switching to hydrogen in order to shine with their carbon footprints. Especially the steel and chemical industry could replace coal or crude oil with hydrogen. In the transport sector, hydrogen is a possible option, especially in heavy goods and long-distance transport as well as in the aviation and shipping sectors. But for the time being, hydrogen is still a rather rare commodity.
To produce hydrogen, electrolysers are needed, for which platinum is the crucial raw material.
