„Solidarnosc- Wolnosc „ installation from Kurt Fleckenstein - „Freedom“ at the Festival Wroclaw
Archicooking with Kurt Fleckenstein in Wroclaw. Kurt Fleckenstein at the Festival Wroclaw non Stopp
(firmenpresse) - The Festival Wroclaw non stop which is annually taking place in Poland, has been enriched this year by an exhibition taking place in the whole town. Themed “Archicooking” the latest artpieces by Miroslaw Balka, Kyoto Takahashiego and others are exhibited. Kurt Fleckenstein is represented with his installation „Wolnosc“. Four red carpets, a parasol and a beer garden seating placed on each of them form the frame of the installation. On each of the four carpets the script nameplate „Wolnosc“ is written in white colour with consecutive numbering I…IV. This writing is consistent to the script nameplate of Solidarnosc, the organisation of the Polish federation of trade unions.
The four beer garden seatings represent four beer labels. They only differ in their imprinted logos. Tables, chairs and parasols are otherwise exactly identical in terms of size or construction.
The Polish term „Wolnosz“ means freedom and is a synomenon for the ideals of the former “Solidarnosc”. Through this installation the former high claim of the Polish people for freedom is reduced to the choice of four beer labels. Ironie is hit in the fact that these four labels belong to only one company which is on of the biggest beer/food companies worldwide. Thereby criticism on globalisation is unmistakeable. With this installation Kurt Fleckenstein addresses especially the ambivalenz of market-economyin post-communism countries and highlights in an ironic way how little the objectives of the critical trade union movement have been implemented in social life.

Wroclaw Non-Stop 2007
Arguably the most ambitious and exciting of all Wroclaw’s festivals, the NonStop Festival takes place over ten days in June and July supporting over a hundred different cultural events. Everything from urban survival camps to Portuguese folk music can be expected on what is a reliably extensive programme of performances and activities.
Yes the city-encompassing event that is The NonStop Festival will be back in Wroclaw for 2007, bringing all sorts of frolicks and musical mayhem with it. Little is known of the exact programme of events as yet, except for the fact that the legendary Iggy Pop and the Stooges will be headlining! They will play Wroclaw's Olympic Stadium (built for the Berlin 1936 Olympics - and to be rennovated for Euro 2012). As soon as we know more about accompanying events we'll let you know - but theatre, dance, music, art, photography and much more will all have their place in the city's biggest annual extravaganza...
