FDA Withdraws Obsolete Pet Food CPGs

(PresseBox) - On April 30, 2019, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) withdrew three out-of-date Compliance Policy Guides (CPGs) that explained enforcement policies that the FDA followed for materials used in animal foods. These obsolete CPGs are no longer necessary because the hazards that were addressed in the guides are now covered by the Federal Food, Drug & Cosmetic (FD&C) ActFSMA?s Animal Food Preventive Controls (PCAF) Rule.
Under the Act and the PCAF Rule, dangers such as biological hazards (pathogen) and chemical hazards (drug residues) are controlled by the requirement to establish a food safety plan that identifies and controls known or reasonably foreseeable hazards.
