The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) designates 7layers as a technical service for eCall
(PresseBox) - The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) designates 7layers as a technical service for eCall Regulation UN R-144 and EU 2017/79
eCall: Eu-wide mandatory for automotive manufactures
Since April 1, 2018 the implementation of the automated emergency call technology (eCall) in new car models has become obligatory. According to the new EU regulation, automotive manufacturers are obliged to integrate the new eCall system into all new car models be it passenger cars (M1) or light commercial vehicles (N1).
In case of an accident eCall makes an automated emergency call to the Europe-wide emergency call center. At the same time all relevant information, like the position of the vehicle, will automatically be transferred to the next emergency centre which thereupon will be able to get in touch with the driver.
An EU survey shows that this new regulation is more than just another obstacle to overcome: Using eCall thousands of human lives could be saved each year.
eCall systems - Type approval required
Not each and every e-Call system can be assembled by the manufacturer. To be eligible for assembly, newly introduced eCall systems have to provide proof of compliance with the requirements of the 2017/79 EU regulation. eCall systems will have to be tested and certified by a registered technical service in due consideration of these EU regulations.
Fulfilling the requirements below is mandatory.
Annex 1: eCall systems resilience check (in case of heavy accidents)
Annex 2: Full-scale impact test assessment
Annex 3: Crash resistance of audio equipment
Annex 4: Co-existence of TPS and eCall
Annex 5: Automatic triggering
Annex 6: Compatibility of e-Call systems with Positioning services/devices
Annex 7: (IVS self-test)/ self-test of onboard systems
Annex 8: Privacy and data protection
7layers audit for eCall regulation 2017/79 and UN-R 144 has been concluded successfully
For over 15 years now 7layers has supported the automotive industry by implementing testing and certifying requirements for smart products with integrated radio components. Since 7 July, 2018 7layers has been an acknowledged technical service (category A and B) for regulation (EU) 2017/79 and UN-R 144. UN-R 144 is a new eCall regulation for the UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission) member states. It further adds tests types - dependant on the approval type - like:
Electro magnetic compatibility (UN ? R 10)
Power supply
Device control
Hands-free audio performance (ITU-T P.1140)
?Of course, we are very happy about this auditing. As of now we will be able to support our customers with the introduction and technical approval of eCall systems as well? says Angela Spielberg, Consultant of 7layers. ?We are particularly proud to be able to provide these services not only in Europe but also for many states worldwide.
