New compact In-line valve

ID: 1533168

(PresseBox) - In the context of the efforts to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, thermal management plays a key role in today''s powertrain systems. And given the increasing trend towards electrification, the complex control of the various cooling and heating circuits is gaining significance. In order to be able to individually control these circuits, there is a need for reliable coolant valves. Pierburg GmbH has now introduced a new in-line valve with a small footprint and engineered as part of a modular system.

The new valve features innovative engineering to allow it to reliably address system requirements, while its compact design cuts out the normal shaft displacement between the input and output lines. This means the actuator requires no space outside of the coolant pipes, and hence the packaging within the vehicle is much more compact.

In addition, the new valve optimizes the overall performance of the system. Lower pressure losses allow reduced energy consumption by the pumps as well as significantly higher flow rates. What''s more, the patented valve design reduces the pumping effect and the noise of the valve switching on and off. Rounding off the new valve technology is a weight reduction of over 30 percent compared to conventional valves.

Extended potentials through system modularity

In order to fulfil the many and varied management functions for the cooling and heating circuits, the manufacturer has developed an in-line system of modules. This includes simple shut-off valves, and flexible 3-way valves for reliably switching on/off the coolant lines. In this way, Pierburg is enhancing space utilization options and allowing new connection concepts on present and future coolant circuit systems.
