Rheinmetall Automotive positioning itself in Southeast Asia
Contract for divert-air valves
(PresseBox) - Through its group subsidiary Pierburg, Rheinmetall Automotive AG has won a strategically significant contract awarded by a major OEM in Southeast Asia. The order covers divert-air valves and has a lifetime value of ?7.7 million. Shipments will start as from the end of 2018. For this German auto-industry supplier, it is the first order for Southeast Asia and hence a valuable door-opener to this part of the world.
The divert-air valves will be produced at Pierburg''s Lower-Rhine plant in Neuss and are the newest generation, proving themselves in the particularly hot engine zones. In fact, they will withstand temperatures of up to 220 degrees and higher pressures. Besides being fitted to the turbo-charger, they can be installed in the charge-air line. Compact dimensions yield packaging benefits and ease engine compartment installation.
Market leader in divert-air valves
Pierburg is considered world market leader in divert-air valves for turbochargers. The valves have been in production since 2004 and in 2016, total production added up to some 12 million units, the trend continuing to rise. Altogether, some 60 million have already been sold. Customers are virtually all the major OEMs as well as manufacturers of turbochargers.
The divert-air valve is a solenoid valve with integrated pressure compensation to allow the valve to work under wide-ranging engine conditions irrespective of the actual charge pressure of the turbocharger. The turbocharger can continue to rotate freely, the repeated rise in pressure is shortened and the turbocharger accelerates more rapidly for improved response after gearshifting.
