Scott Krause Receives Willy Brandt Prize for Contemporary History
US-American historian Scott Krause receives the Willy Brandt Prize for Contemporary History 2017 for his dissertation “Outpost of Freedom.”
(firmenpresse) - The board of trustees of the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation awards the Willy Brandt Prize for Contemporary History 2017 to Scott Krause, Ph.D. According to the selection committee''s unanimous decision, Scott Krause''s work "Outpost of Freedom" breaks new ground in the political and diplomatic history of the Cold War. “Outpost of Freedom” not only adds a distinct West Berlin perspective on the history of the Federal Republic of Germany but also uniquely examines the contribution of Social Democrats in Berlin to the founding consensus of the Federal Republic of Germany. Scott Krause also succeeds in broadening the scope of Cold War history, usually portrayed from the political centers of the Great Powers, with a new perspective on the destroyed former capital of Nazi-Germany going through a state of reinvention. The award ceremony will take place in 2018.
“Scott Krause''s work delivers important insights into the Social Democratic exile and its contribution to the reconstitution of West Berlin. It allows an in-depth understanding of US occupation and Cold War policy at the time. We are delighted to award Scott Krause with the Willy Brandt Prize for Contemporary History”, says Wolfgang Thierse, chairman the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation''s board of trustees.
The Willy Brandt Prize for Contemporary History is awarded every two years by the Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt Foundation to an outstanding academic paper, dissertation or habilitation. The work must focus on the work and legacy of Willy Brandt or on a specific chapter of contemporary history related to his name and his political life.
