The 17th Annual South-East Asian Association for Institutional Research Conference will be held for the first time in Singapore at PSB Academy, Asia's Future Academy; The Conference will focus on developing human capital for a digitally-connected region through quality higher education

(firmenpresse) - SINGAPORE -- (Marketwired) -- 09/06/17 -- Academics representing 25 institutions of higher learning from six ASEAN member states plus Australia and Japan will gather in Singapore today to tackle the theme of "Asean Higher Education at the Crossroads: Challenges, Changes, Capacities, and Capabilities".

Organized by , Singapore''s best private education institution(1), with the support of the South-East Asian Association for Institutional Research (SEAAIR), delegates at the three-day conference will map out the possibilities of applying innovative technology and techniques to enhance the quality of student experience and engagement in higher education institutions in the region.

More than 480 million in ASEAN will have regular access to the internet by 2020, which according to a Google-Temasek survey, will drive the value of e-services in the region to over US$200 billion by 2025. SEAAIR will aim to address opportunities and challenges raised by these broad trends, to inspire educators to develop human capital that is ready for a digitally-connected region.

"SEAAIR 2017 will attune our diverse communities of educators and policymakers with today''s multifaceted challenges in developing our students'' capabilities for the demands of tomorrow. A review and renewal of our current systems will be essential in helping us grow self-sufficient human resources that are plugged into the future economy, while the region becomes more connected and integrated -- this will be a true indicator of success for our higher learning institutions," says Associate Professor Teay Shawyun, Ph.D, President, SEAAIR. Associate Professor Teay Shawyun will lead a discussion with the delegates to draw up a 10-year roadmap and set new goals for education and partnership in the region.

Another highlight of the conference will be the unveiling of Private Education in Singapore: Contemporary Issues and Challenges, a book authored by PSB Academy''s Dean, Dr. Sam Choon-Yin. His book showcases how private institutions can also play a complementary role alongside public institutions in the context of Singapore''s ecosystem for human capital development. In doing so, Dr. Sam believes that education institutions can strengthen their offering while positioning themselves as enablers of workers, to help the country thrive in this age of disruption.

"Research shows(2) that more than eight in 10 graduates from PSB Academy gain employment within six months of completing their course at the Academy in 2015, while six in 10 part-time students saw pay raises or better career prospects. We remain dedicated to these excellent graduate outcomes, drawing strength from our roots in Singapore''s productivity movement. Today, we renew this shared mission with our colleagues from the region, as we work together to spearhead events like today''s SEAAIR conference to explore smarter ways to prepare each of our graduates for the New Economy," says Dr Sam.
