Practicing his trade at the state of the art Optegra Eye Hospital in Yorkshire, Mr Backhouse has also strived to give back to the community through charitable initiatives, most notably by founding MOSS (Madagascan Organisation for Saving Sight). The consultant is also a keen member of the Yorkshire World Blindness 2020 Group, founded to promote eye health programmes in developing countries.
Professionally, Mr Backhouse has enjoyed a vividly successful career to date. Having qualified in 1992 as a doctor, he worked at Great Ormond Street Children''s hospital before becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1997. To date, Mr Backhouse enjoys the distinction of having over 30 peer reviewed publications.
